Born on 28th January 1948, in Kirby-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, the centre-back spent two seasons on Tyneside and made 77 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.

He also played 322 times for Middlesbrough, as well as representing Mansfield Town and Hartlepool United. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
