The winger carried his relentless run of form into April, with goal contributions in four of his six matches, which helped the Magpies to finish the month third in the Premier League table.

Three assists - alongside his three goals - also fired Murphy into the top five of Newcastle United's all-time Premier League assists leaderboard, joining fan favourites Laurent Robert, Rob Lee, Nolberto Solano and Alan Shearer.

"I wasn't aware of that record but it's very nice to hear I'm in such good company. I'm determined to get closer to the others now. It gives extra motivation to keep adding more assists and continue climbing up that chart," said Murphy.

Eight years after joining the club, the boyhood Magpies fan has found the 'form of his career' on route to cementing his place on the right wing, appearing in 31 of the club's 34 Premier League fixtures so far during the 2024/25 campaign.

He added: "The team balance has really complemented my game and when the team plays well, I play well. It's a collective effort and everyone elevating their own game, elevates each other as well. I think that's probably a key reason for our success this season."

"The focus for the rest of the campaign is now just to win all of the remaining games and secure Champions League football for next year."
