The young Magpies took an early lead at the Foxes' Training Ground courtesy of Kyle Fitzgerald's close-range finish, turning the ball home from Seung-soo Park's teasing cross.
Vakhtang Salia, making his Premier League 2 debut following last summer's transfer from Dinamo Tbilisi in his native homeland, doubled the visitors' lead before half-time after brilliantly heading the ball home from Fitzgerald's cross.
Kirsten Otchere halved the deficit for City shortly after the restart before Newcastle were denied maximum points in their push for the play-off spots following Lorenz Hutchinson's equaliser in the closing stages.
Robbie Stockdale made one change from the starting XI which claimed a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion 10 days ago as Salia replaced Sean Neave in attack, with the Georgian teenager making his longly-awaited bow in a United shirt after sustaining a hamstring injury in August.
Newcastle's youngsters took the lead in the tenth minute following Fitzgerald's first ever goal in the Premier League 2. After the visitors regained possession up high, Anthony Munda played the ball into Park's path before the South Korean winger threaded an inviting ball into Fitzgerald's path, who fired the ball into the net inside the six-yard area.
Magpies goalkeeper Aidan Harris produced a crucial stop to prevent Otchere from equalising in swift fashion. After the Foxes striker raced towards goal after robbing Ciaran Thompson of possession on the left flank, his tame effort was comfortably by the 19-year-old shot-stopper.
Leicester had the ball in the net minutes later as Otchere placed the ball home inside the box after Harris initially parried Tommy Neale's long-range strike but the goal was disallowed after the City forward had strayed into an offside position.
In the 29th minute, Salia marked his competitive under-21s bow with a goal as the Georgia Under-21 international rose high from Fitzgerald's cross from the right flank, after Miodrag Pivaš had retrieved the ball towards the corner flag, before guiding a powerful header beyond Leicester goalkeeper Freddie Marson.
Newcastle's second-string preserved their two-goal cushion heading into the break despite a threatening attack from the hosts after Lorenz Hutchinson's dangerous cross from the left flank was flashed into Darren Motsi's path but the 15-year-old's first time effort flew wildly over the crossbar.
In the 50th minute, Newcastle's hopes of a clean sheet were dashed as Otchere pulled a goal back for Leicester as Riley Carr, introduced from the substitutes' bench at the restart, fired a dangerous cross into the forward's path, who steered a close-range effort past Harris.
Harris produced an excellent stop to stop Otchere from netting his and Leicester's second goal of the night as Carr nodded the ball into Otchere's path from the byline but the forward's goal bound strike was turned over the bar by the goalkeeper's stretching left leg.
Scott Bailey, who joined Newcastle's Academy as a nine-year-old, was unable to regain Newcastle's advantage on the hour mark as the Durham-born midfielder latched onto a loose ball and, after driving into the box, saw a low firm effort held by Marson.
In the 77th minute, Newcastle found themselves level through Hutchinson's strike. After Ryan Donnelly beat Park to a loose ball, the right-back advanced forward before picking out the City winger inside the box, who managed to slot a low effort underneath Harris.
Newcastle were fortunate not to fall behind as Motsi struck the woodwork for the hosts, cutting inside on the edge of the box before his bending effort clipped the outright before the rebound trickled inches past the right-hand post.
With the full-time whistle nearing, Harris produced another fine stop as Otchere's fierce drive inside the penalty area forced the 19-year-old, who spent the first half of the 2025/26 season on loan at NIFL Premiership side Coleraine, into holding the effort.
Miodrag Pivaš went close to grabbing a stoppage-time winner as Baran Yildiz's corner was headed towards goal by Henry Johnson, the latter making his under-21s debut, but the Serbian defender could only steer his following header over the crossbar as the spoils were, ultimately, shared.
