Langley still saw positives from the way her side grew into the game at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park after a difficult start, but admitted United were not good enough across the 90 minutes to take anything away from the game.
"It was a really tough game, which we knew it would be against Birmingham," Langley told newcatsleunited.com.
"I don't think we started the game strongly and found ourselves on the back foot and 2-0 behind after 15 minutes, but I do think we grew into the first half.
"I thought 3-0 was harsh at half time, and we created some good chances with Demi (Stokes), Molly (Pike) and Emily Murphy. But we weren't good enough across the full 90 minutes."
Newcastle managed to get on the scoresheet twice after the break, which came off the back of some positivity heading into halftime.
One of Newcastle’s goalscorers was Jasmine McQuade, who has found the net after coming off the bench in their last two games - something Langley has been happy to see from the versatile midfielder.
"At half time, I felt like there were positive mindsets from players and staff going into the second half, and we managed to get the first goal, and you could feel the momentum was back with us," she said.
"But then we made the mistake for their fourth goal when we were looking to play out under pressure, and all of a sudden the momentum swung back with Birmingham.
"Jas came on and was really bright. She got front-facing well, and I'm sure she will build on that momentum heading into Wednesday because I thought she was brilliant in the second half."
