Mason, younger brother of Magpies midfielder Lewis, joined the Magpies' Academy at Under-9 level before signing his first professional contract with his boyhood club last summer.

The 17-year-old made his first senior start during Newcastle's pre-season friendly against Bayer 04 Leverkusen at St. James' Park last month and will be hoping to make his professional bow for Matthias Jaissle's side this evening.

The Stanley-born teenager is hopeful of following in his brother's footsteps and, should he feature at Elland Road this evening, would become only the fourth Magpies player aged 17 or under to make a Premier League appearance.

After signing his maiden pro deal in July, Mason told newcastleunited.com: "I had a good breakthrough season in my first year of full-time football after the school programme.

"I think I kicked on at the start of the season, training with the first-team a few times and making a number of appearances for the under-21s, so I thought I impressed and want to keep pushing on.

"I'll be aiming to have another good season with the U21s and try to train with the first-team as much as possible, impressing the staff, and hopefully make an appearance in the matchday squad.

"In the long-term, it would be trying to get on the bench and making my debut for this club because that would mean a lot to me and my family."
