Everything you need to know ahead of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 8.

Newcastle United have teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to bring you Fantasy Premier League (FPL) hints, tips and advice throughout the 2026/27 season.

Scout will be offering their expertise every Gameweek, which could prove invaluable in helping you win your mini-leagues.

Best of Newcastle in Gameweek 7

The importance of being able to rack up tackles, clearances and other defensive actions was laid bare in Gameweek 7.

In FPL, defenders are rewarded with two points for every 10 clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBITs) they make in a match.

Midfielders and forwards are also eligible for these points. They have to amass 12 clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles and recoveries (CBIRTs).

Three Magpies met their required number against Aston Villa: Sven Botman (£5.0m), Lewis Hall (£5.3m) and Nico Gonzalez (£5.5m).

Botman now has 10 defensive contribution points to his name 2026/27. That’s a tally that not one other Premier League player can better.

Not far behind him is Hall on eight. No other full-time full-back can get close to that total.

Spotlight on... Yoane Wissa

Yoane Wissa (£6.1m) may be without an attacking return since Gameweek 2 but he’s been operating deeper for much of that intervening period, doing a selfless job linking midfield and attack.

Against Villa last time out, he was reinstated to the centre-forward role and racked up some eye-catching numbers.

Seven shots against the Villans was a tally that no other Premier League player could better in Gameweek 7.

The DR Congo international’s total of six attempts in the box was also a league-high.

If Matthias Jaissle sticks with Wissa up top in Gameweek 8, the forward could get some joy against a Crystal Palace side that has conceded more goals than any other club in 2026/27.

FPL transfer market

A lot of Fantasy managers are shopping for a new midfielder this week thanks to injuries picked up by Dominik Szoboszlai (£6.8m), Bukayo Saka (£9.6m) and Antoine Semenyo (£8.3m).

Five of the six most-bought players of the Gameweek are midfielders, indeed.

Rayan Cherki (£8.0m) tops the pile but, as last weekend proved, you never can be 100% sure which of Manchester City’s array of attackers Enzo Maresca is going to choose.

Pascal Gross (£6.2m) is still attracting plenty of interest but back-to-back away fixtures at Anfield and the Etihad may not be a great entry point for managers considering the veteran German anew.

Marcus Tavernier (£6.1m) could be a savvier buy. His Bournemouth side face a Manchester United outfit still without a single Premier League clean sheet in 2026/27. The only other team still waiting for a shut-out, Ipswich Town, face the Cherries in Gameweek 10.

Tavernier is joint-top among midfielders for goals scored (four), level with Cherki, Morgan Rogers (£8.0m) and Bryan Mbeumo (£7.8m).

Rogers and Mbeumo, like Cherki and Tavernier, feature in the top six most-bought players of Gameweek 8.
