Our visitors today, Bournemouth, are always a really tough opponent for us, home or away, and they’ve got a new manager. It’s a huge game but if we keep on putting in positive performances like we have been, hopefully the results will continue to come.

The lads have started really well, building a bit of that momentum. I feel very proud of how the lads are doing with a young team, the first season together and seeing how quickly they’re taking the Coach’s philosophy on board.

Externally, people were saying how much of a negative summer it was for us. So it was impressive to see how the lads responded against Liverpool – I always knew we’d perform because of the occasion of it – but we followed it up with the Carabao Cup win and really laid down a marker at Tottenham last week. We didn’t just win, but performed really well, kept the ball well. You could see the manager’s ideas in the way we play.

This week, we welcomed Matias Fernandez-Pardo, a really sought-after player this window. For us to get that over the line it shows the direction the club is going in. It takes lads time coming to England, learning the language, and the quicker they can get on board with that, the better.

The club have taken a different approach from recent years and are building a younger, exciting squad. There’s a lot of potential there, and lads who are big international players. With Nico coming in from Manchester City, he brings that experience.

There’s a good mix of experienced lads here to help the younger lads. There are lads who have been here a number of years. Sven has been here a number of years, probably coming into his prime years and he’s looked really good in the first few weeks, along with Malick. Hally has also been here a long time now.

I’m really happy with how the team looks, it’s early days and we’re only three games into the season, but I’m really impressed with what we’ve done so far.

Now we really need to make sure we keep doing it and don’t sit back and relax.

When we’ve done well, our home form has been our bread and butter, when teams fear coming to Newcastle. If you win your home games and pick up positive results, then anything away is a bonus – like at Tottenham.

It’s been a good start, and hopefully we can continue that today.
