Charlie McArthur has joined newly-promoted League Two side York City following his departure from St. James' Park this summer.

The 21-year-old defender began his playing career at hometown club Kilmarnock, making his first-team debut for Killie aged 16, before arriving on Tyneside in the summer of 2022.

A representative of Scotland at U17, U19 and U21 level, McArthur spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Carlisle United before, in January, joining Airdrieonians F.C on loan for the remainder of the previous campaign.

York return to the English Football League (EFL) for the first time in a decade after winning the National League title last season, with McArthur aiming to make his competitive debut for the Minstermen when hosting Bristol Rovers on Saturday, 15th August [kick-off 3pm].

Everyone at Newcastle United would like to thank Charlie for his service and wish him the best of luck for the future.
